Spice up your life! And also racism apparently.

So...I'm going to write about The Spice Girls.  At least until something else comes along.  Yesterday's post was kind of rough and I just want to write about something silly and mindless...and well...we'll see how that goes.  It all started with this hilariously awesome music video: Now, I love basically everything that Postmodern Jukebox does. It's nerdy in the exact kind of way that appeals to me.  Expert musicians recreating music from an older era with covers of modern songs, fusing them in ways that really shouldn't work, but somehow totally do. Mostly because of their incredible skill and musicianship. It's amazing.  And it probably makes me a hipster to think that. Well, so be it.  Good things are good and I like them.  But, it occurred to me while I was watching this music video that I don't think I've ever actually seen the real Spice Girls "Wannabe" music video. Now, this isn't super surprising.  Wannabe was released in 1996 when ...

Rest in Peace, Grammy

Well, this was supposed to be a silly blog. Just something kind of off-the-cuff, you know?  Blowing off the steam, flexing the writing muscles, building up a little bit of compositional stamina.  And here we are. Day 2 and it's already therapy.  Grammy died today. Wilda Beth Carter neĆ© Olson ("Wilda than most"), my last remaining grandparent.  She died suddenly, but incredibly peacefully.  My mom said she got up like any other day, read a bit, visited with my aunt, all the usual this and that. And then during lunch she just slipped away.  That's a part that kind of gets me.  I love lunch. It's one of my favorite times of day. Maybe even more than dinner.  And she quietly determined that that was the end.  Hers was by far the easiest death of all of my grandparents. No hospitals. No tubes. No doctors that are somehow stifling with their sympathy. A quiet death, at home, surrounded by family, at lunch.  She died as she lived.  And I'm...

Presenting the Pomodoro Penwoman

Greetings!   For the past, on my, nearly ten years I have been an inconsistent blogger--certainly in the quantity and I dare say in the quality of my blogposts--and I feel a little like I'm cheating on my spouse with this new blogging project.  I've loved SuperCogitansing with you all and I expect I'll be back to it now and again, but I'm trying something new.  Welcome to Pomodoro Penwoman! What the heck? Why do you keep naming your blog weird things that no one understands?  Well... it makes me laugh. And really, I can't think of better reason to do anything.  And I even made a silly logo! But in all semi-seriousness.  Many of you out there are probably familiar with or at least aware of a time management system called The Pomodoro Technique.   It crossed my radar during my work-from-home-days during the pandemic, as I'm sure it did for many of you as well.  It was a new experience working from home. And coming from a work environment wher...
